National Safety Month: Tips for Truck Drivers

National Safety Month: Roadway Safety

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of work-related deaths in the United States and the NSC estimates 44,450 people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2023. With crashes being the leading cause of workplace death, the choices we all make behind the wheel can improve roadway safety for everyone.

As truck drivers, these preventative tips are crucial to keep in mind, as one truck driver can come across thousands of different vehicles in one single day.

  • Buckle up!: Lack of seat belt use is a top cause of fatalities in crashes.
  • Slow down: Speeding is a factor in more than a quarter of all traffic fatalities - drive the speed limit or below it.
  • Drive distraction free: Thousands have died in car crashes involving cell phone use. Put your phone away and just drive!
  • Get enough rest: As many as one in five fatal crashes in the general population involve driver fatigue. If you feel fatigued while driving, pull over, drink a cup of coffee, and take a 15-30 minute nap before continuing. These will only temporarily correct the issue, the only cure for fatigue is sleep.
  • Prepare before you go: As a truck driver, you should always conduct a thorough pre-trip inspection to ensure your truck and trailer are operating properly, and most importantly, safe.

At Jeff Foster Trucking, Inc., safety is our top priority. We are committed to providing a secure workplace for our drivers and all employees to continuously improve and ensure a safe environment.

People with donations stand in front of
December 15, 2025
This month, our team came together for a toy and supply drive supporting Safe Haven and The Damiano Center — two organizations doing real, on-the-ground work for people in our community who need it most. Trucking is built on showing up. No excuses. No shortcuts. And that mindset doesn’t stop when the trucks are parked. Thanks to the generosity of our employees, drivers, and community members, we were able to collect toys and essential supplies that will help families and individuals facing some of the toughest situations there are. From everyday necessities to items that bring a little joy and comfort, every donation mattered. Safe Haven provides critical support and shelter for those experiencing domestic violence, while The Damiano Center offers food, clothing, and resources for individuals and families working to get back on their feet. These organizations don’t just offer help — they offer hope, dignity, and a path forward.
